Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Kabooms first appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. In this particular game, they semi-commonly appear in the game. They act similarly to Klobbers as both try to knock Diddy and Dixie off the edge. As they try, they fail and result in exploding themselves when touched and even Diddy and Dixie become injured. In order to be defeated, they must be jumped on to hide back in their barrels and be thrown at something to explode without the monkeys becoming injured. A barrel and crate may also allow Kabooms to hide back in their barrels. They are mainly found in K. Rool's Keep and the Lost World.

Donkey Kong 64

Kabooms reappear in Donkey Kong 64. They are more uncommon than in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and are only found in Gloomy Galleon and Angry Aztec. They attack in the same way as before and can only be defeated with Orange Grenades so they may explode or fruit. They are also featured in the DK Rap where three appear try to attack Diddy, but he strikes back by throwing Orange Grenades to make them explode. They can also be defeated and explode by a shockwave, but it hurts the Kongs in the process. They also have a Daffy Duck-esque voice as shown when they constantly miss a Kong. They also self-destruct in five seconds when failing to touch a monkey. When it turns, it makes a tire screeching-like noise.

Kabooms also appear in Diddy's Mine Cart minigame in Jungle Japes. They try to injure Diddy by colliding into him when jumping from edges.
