Klaptrap is a small species of Kremling with giant teeth appearing in the Donkey Kong series.

History[]

Donkey Kong Country/Land[]

Klaptrap makes its first appearance in Donkey Kong Country. In this game, it cannot be defeated by the front, due to its sharp teeth, but can be defeated from the back. It can be defeated by any type of attack by Donkey and Diddy, except for rolling or cartwheeling in front. Klampons and Krimps succeed from Klaptraps in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! respectively. Klaptrap first appears in Stop & Go Station and makes its final in Loopy Lights.

Klaptraps reappear in Donkey Kong Land. It acts the same, but appears less in the game. It first appears in Riggin' Rumble and make its final level appearance in Skyscraper Caper.

Donkey Kong 64[]

Klaptraps make another appearance in Donkey Kong 64. They received drastic redesigns in the game, being green like the Kremlings and wearing a collar. When defeated, their teeth still attack unless a monkey has Orange Grenades. In this game, Big Klaptraps, similar species to regular Klaptraps, appear in the game and are purple. They can only be killed by Orange Grenades. King K. Rool also is seen with a Klaptrap, appearing to be his pet. Klaptrap is also playable in the minigame, Beaver Bother.

Diddy Kong Pilot[]

A single Klaptrap reappears in the 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot as an unlockable character and member of Team Kremling. Klaptrap is soon replaced by Jolly Roger in Banjo-Pilot. It also has its own cup called Klaptrap Cup where it is a boss in a dogfight minigame.
