Cheato

Cheato is Gruntilda's ex-spellbook, who has been abandoned by the witch herself, and currently resides in her ruined lair.

Banjo and Kazooie first met up with Cheato in Banjo-Kazooie, while they were exploring the lair. Due to his dislike in Grunty's ethics, Cheato revolted, providing the bear and bird with magic spells each time they found him, with which they could use to increase their egg and feather capacities. Grunty threatened to destroy Cheato for helping the duo, but she was defeated before any damage could be done.
Two years later, Grunty was revived by her sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda. Angry as ever, Grunty stormed her lair, found Cheato, ripped his pages out, and banished them across the Isle O' Hags. Although Cheato now seemed worthless at this point, he was willing to once again provide Banjo and Kazooie with spells for every five pages of his that they returned.
Even after Banjo and Kazooie returned all of Cheato's missing pages, Cheato still appeared to be ruined. The future of Cheato, including whether or not he'll make an appearance in Banjo-Kazooie 3, is unknown.
Cheato is not to be confused with Ghost Book, a character from Donkey Kong 64.
